According to IT Home on September 29, AMD officially announced the pricing for the EPYC 9006 series server CPUs today, ranging from USD 700 to USD 14,904 (Note: at current exchange rates, approximately RMB 4,705 to RMB 100,000).
The sixth-generation EPYC 9006 (codenamed Venice) server processor lineup comprises a total of 31 SKUs, covering models from 8 cores to 256 cores. Among them, the flagship model EPYC 9996 is equipped with 256 Zen 6 cores, making it one of the single-socket x86 server processors with the highest core count from AMD currently.
The EPYC 9006 series processors utilize Zen 6 and Zen 6c architectures, divided into SP7 and SP8 platforms, covering various scenarios including cloud computing, enterprise servers, AI host nodes, and HPC.
Specifically, SP7 targets high-end data centers, is compatible with 16-channel DDR5 memory, MRDIMM, and RDIMM, supports up to DDR5-12800, provides 96 PCIe 6.0 lanes, and has a default power range of 400W to 600W.
The flagship model on the SP7 platform, EPYC 9996, features 256 cores and 512 threads, with a maximum boost frequency of up to 4.1GHz and 1024MB of L3 cache. The official price is USD 14,904. If used in a dual-socket server configuration, two EPYC 9996 processors can form a platform with 512 cores and 1024 threads; the processor cost alone reaches USD 29,808 (approximately RMB 212,700), excluding memory and system costs.
According to official AMD specifications, the cost per core for the flagship model is approximately USD 58.2, whereas the entry-level 64-core EPYC 9556 in the SP7 series is priced at USD 8,008, costing approximately USD 125 per core. Higher-core models offer greater cost efficiency in data center deployments.
The SP7 series also introduces two high-frequency models with the "F" suffix—EPYC 9586F and EPYC 9686F. Both processors can achieve a maximum boost frequency of 5GHz but require higher power compatibility; for example, the 64-core EPYC 9586F has a power consumption of 500W, which is 100W higher than the 96-core EPYC 9656.
In comparison, the SP8 platform is positioned as more balanced. This series of SKUs uses 8-channel DDR5 memory, provides 128 PCIe 6.0 lanes—which is about one-third more than SP7—but is not compatible with MRDIMM. Its processor power range covers 130W to 400W, making it more suitable for enterprise general-purpose computing and virtualization deployments.
The SP8 model line starts with the 8-core EPYC 9016, priced at just USD 700; the flagship EPYC 9746 offers 128 cores and 256 threads at a price of USD 11,679.
The SP8 platform also includes single-socket specific models with the "P" suffix, which further reduce the price while maintaining consistent performance. For example, the 128-core EPYC 9736P is about 6% cheaper than the standard version EPYC 9736, while the 32-core EPYC 9356P is about 26% cheaper than the regular version.
Another relatively unique model is the 16-core EPYC 9176F. Although it does not have a high core count, it is equipped with 192MB of L3 cache, which is four times that of the standard 16-core model EPYC 9116, and it is also compatible with a maximum 5GHz boost frequency. This means it has 12MB of L3 cache per core, making it more suitable for software licensing scenarios charged per core count.
AMD stated that SP7 platform servers will launch in the fourth quarter of this year, while SP8 platform products will be released successively in the first half of 2027. Additionally, the company plans to launch the Venice-X series equipped with 3D V-Cache in 2027 to meet the higher cache needs of HPC and scientific computing applications.
