Amazon has just unveiled the Kindle Colorsoft, its first color e-reader, with a base model priced at $289 and a signature edition at $319 (featuring an aluminum back). The signature version boasts 32GB storage, auto-adjusting front light, tap-to-turn pages, and support for Pogo-pin dock charging. Both models will be available starting October 28, 2025.
The new Kindle Colorsoft delivers paper-like color display that remains comfortable for long-duration reading, free from the harsh glare of tablets. Whether browsing colored covers, flipping through travel guides, or enjoying comics and graphic novels, the screen provides a natural color-reading experience. To achieve this, Colorsoft employs a light guide with nitride LEDs to enhance color and brightness without washing out details. Its oxide backplane and custom waveform ensure faster performance and higher contrast for both color and black-and-white content.
The display of the latest Colorsoft is completely reimagined, utilizing reverse printing technology from the entire product line to enable edge-to-edge color. Micro-deflectors inside the light guide minimize stray light and improve uniformity, while ultra-thin optical coatings in the display stack further enhance clarity.
Resolution is 300 PPI for black-and-white text and 150 PPI for color. It supports VoiceView screen reading (via Bluetooth audio) and is compatible with 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz networks. Dimensions are 26.8 mm × 174.7 mm × 6.8 mm, with the base model weighing 204 grams and the signature version weighing 229 grams.
The 16GB graphite base model starts at $289.99; the 32GB signature edition is available in graphite and fig colors for $319.
