Fanmu: Ultra-compact e-reader also an MP3 player with Bluetooth support

The Fanmu is a particularly compact e-reader that can be used as a music player. Now available for purchase, the device also supports a memory card and thus allows for the storage of different types of content.

A new e-reader, the Fanmu, is now available and is intended to stand out from other e-readers through its particularly compact dimensions. In a way, the small size is both a blessing and a curse: the Fanmu is unlikely to offer much reading comfort in practice, at least when reading for long periods of time, but thanks to its dimensions of only 61 x 97.7 x 9 millimeters, the device is extremely portable and practically fits in the palm of your hand. Weighing just 88 grams, the e-reader is also very light.

The e-reader has a 3.52-inch screen with a resolution of 240 x 360. When reading e-books, users have to frequently turn the pages; as can be seen from the pictures, barely more than six words fit on one line. Another big limitation to consider: Fanmu can only handle text files and not EPUB or PDF files. The conversion into text files is normally possible, but the formatting then becomes completely lost. A backlight is available.

At least the Fanmu can also be used as an MP3 player, in which case it can be connected to Bluetooth headphones. Volume control buttons are also on board. A microSD card slot is available and the battery capacity is specified as 850 mAh.

The device can be purchased at specialist store Good E Reader for just under $150, with shipping costs and import duties coming on top. Readers looking for an e-book would probably be better off with a Kindle or a Kobo Libra 2.
